In Subspace’s recent ecosystem call to the community, we touched on some exciting developments at Subspace Labs. Central to the discussion was the integration of generative AI (particularly GPT-based AI) into the user and developer workflows of the Subspace Network, a pivotal step we believe will shape numerous initial use cases and significantly simplify the onboarding experience at the time of our mainnet launch. This post expands upon these recent developments and offers clarity in terms of where we’re heading.

Reimagining the User Experience of Web3

We foresee a future where every person on the planet uses Web3 for their online identity and digital payments. This is an exciting idea with numerous implications.

Picture this: personal AI agents handle tasks ranging from private key management and identity verification to payment execution, all without the user needing intricate technical know-how.

We’re actively aligning the Subspace Network’s user experience to mirror this vision, with emphasis on application and smart contract layers. We’ll have more to share regarding this vision in the coming months. Part of this vision includes making considerations regarding the evolving symbiotic relationship between humans and AI.

Humaic Intelligence (HI) and Humaic Labs

As AI rapidly advances, there’s a growing need to rethink how we approach and develop it. Humaic Intelligence (HI), a synthesis of ‘human’ and ‘AI’, offers a promising pathway. Unlike traditional AI systems, such as ChatGPT, HI champions a bottom-up, globally collaborative approach. It urges a move from AI being a tool operated by select entities to a universally accessible extension of individual humans, tailored to enhance, not replace, the human experience.

Transitioning network responsibilities to the Subspace Foundation has paved the way for the establishment of new entities. Humaic Labs is our dedicated initiative for democratizing access to artificial intelligence, while helping to keep it aligned for the benefit of all humanity, chiefly through its intersection with Web3. Humaic Labs complements Subspace’s mission to support open-source projects with the potential to leave an indelible mark on the global tech landscape.

At the heart of HI lies the philosophy of Humaism, grounded in three core tenets:
● Humanistic, rooted in the humanities and viewing AI as a means to enrich human life.
● Human-centric, aligning AI with individual, not just societal, needs.
● Promoting AI as a human right, advocating universal access over commodification.

Jeremiah’s recent blog post, introducing Humaic Intelligence, explains these ideas in greater detail, unpacking the alignment problem and explaining the need for a new paradigm for building AI. But what are the practical applications and use cases of this emerging technology, and where does Subspace fit in?

Charting Subspace’s Role in an AI-Dominant Era

The Rise of AI Agents
We anticipate the widespread adoption of semi-autonomous AI agents in blockchain systems. These agents, operating independently but in line with human objectives, will manage tasks and assets within a decentralized environment, solidifying AI’s integral role in our Web3 future.

The Advent of Collective Intelligence
The emergence of AGI is on the horizon, and its evolution towards a decentralized model promises a fairer dispersion of AI’s potential and advantages. Collective Intelligence contrasts with its centralized counterpart, AGI, by offering a more open and secure future for humanity.
Our vision is of a future where AI and Web3 seamlessly merge. In this integrated framework, AI stands not just as an enabler, but as a protector of genuine digital identities, with Web3 providing a transparent and decentralized foundation for all online activity. Through this alignment, we’ll strive for a digital world that prioritizes human values at its core.

Foundational Use Cases
Reinvented experiences extend beyond AI-driven chat. Below are foundational use cases we will be pushing forward at the intersection of AI and Web3:
Sapials: Sapial is an acronym that stands for Semi-Autonomous Personal Intelligent Assistants from Large language models. Sapials are individually aligned humaic companions that will serve as trusted advisors and personal guardians in the age of AI.
Sapial.js: The first developer framework purpose-built for HI. Sapial will be maintained under a permissive open-source license while also building the Humaic Hub, an online platform for sharing, hosting, and connecting Sapials.
Damon: Your personal intelligent agent. It is a demonstrator of the capabilities of Sapial and the reference agent for documentation examples, benchmarking, user testing, and dogfooding at Subspace Labs.
Autonomous Identity Framework (Auto ID): An innovative framework designed to enhance the World Wide Web Consortium’s standards for decentralized identifiers (DIDs). It envisages the blockchain as a universal registry for both human and AI-created identities. AutoID is based on a Proof-of-Autonomy that is permissionless,
privacy-preserving, and sybil-resistant.
SayPay (Sapial Pay): Envision a user-centric global payment network, seamlessly integrated with the Sapial developer framework. Our goal is to simplify transactions. With AI-enhanced text-to-speech capabilities, just say “pay” for effortless payment processing. Starting with the Subspace Network, we plan to extend these features across chains, eventually linking with existing web2 payment networks.
The Agent DAO: A Web3 platform enabling AI agents to engage through a DAO, acting on user instructions. Think of this as a new-age collective intelligence system, rivaling centralized AGI but built from the ground up with Humaic principles.

Developer Engagement: Simplifying and Scaling
Developers are crucial to our progress. As we continue utilizing solidity contracts and EVM domains, our focus after Subspace’s launch is expanding our user base. We anticipate a growing developer community around our platform. Central to this is the Sapial Development Framework, designed for AI app creation. It fast-tracks AI agent development integrated with Web3. With a prototype ready and public release upcoming, Sapial offers traditional developers an avenue into AI on Subspace.

Fostering Collaborations
Our commitment to pushing the boundaries of the web3/AI intersection has led to a promising collaboration with the technical team at Hugging Face, a leading entity in open-source AI. Hugging Face has become a leading voice in the AI space — think of them as the GitHub of AI. This alliance aims not just to streamline our internal workflows but to solidify the technical foundation upon which AI-native applications will rest within the Subspace Network.

We can’t wait to share more about this exciting collaboration in the months to come.

Subspace: Charting the Course for an AI-Integrated Web3 Future
Through our exploration, we’ve illuminated the intersections of AI’s progression and the critical role of autonomous identity in the Web3 domain. Subspace Labs stands committed to guiding this paradigm shift, always prioritizing a human-centric digital realm. While this overview captures our vision’s essence, rest assured, this journey has only just begun. More insights and innovations await, and we’re grateful for the community’s continued trust and partnership.
